Welcome Nicholas Aleksander!

Nicholas Aleksander Cuozzo On February 18, 2010 at 9:11PM our baby boy was born.  Nicholas Aleksander Cuozzo came into the world in a very unexpected fashion.  Labor came on so quickly that we were not able to make it to the hospital to have the doctor deliver our baby.  Instead, my wife and I had to fend for ourselves and deliver the baby at home, in our bathroom.

When it became apparent that we would not be able to make it to the hospital, I called 911 and requested an ambulance be dispatched to our home.  A few minutes later, the baby's head was coming out.  I called 911 again and told them the baby was coming.  The 911 operator, Justin Infantino, helped me through the final minutes of the delivery.  Once the first EMT arrived, I handed control over to him and left the room so that I could go into shock.  smiley

After mom and baby were stabilized, we rode by ambulance to the hospital where we would stay for the next few days.  The news media got a hold of the 911 call and the event became public.  I was at our home on Friday the 19th picking up a few things and getting ready to head back to the hospital when Channel 3 News arrived in my driveway.  I did an interview with them which aired on the 6pm news that evening.

When I returned to the hospital, a Yale PR rep came to the room and asked me if I would be interested to speak with the New Haven Register.  He left me the number for a journalist.  I called them and did a phone interview from the room.  The article appeared in the Saturday edition of the paper and also online.

Later on the 19th, I received a voicemail from somebody at Channel 8.  They also wanted to do an interview with me.  I was quite tired, but told them if they were able to meet me at the hospital, I would talk to them.  They were very nice when they interviewed me.  They aired the interview on the 11pm news.

On Sunday the 21st, Shore Publishing called and also wanted an interview.  I spoke to them over the phone and emailed a few pictures.  The published the article online within an hour or so.

What started out as the most stressful and high pressure situation in my life turned out to be quite an experience.  I think it will be pretty cool to be able to tell my son about how he was born and show him the articles and videos from the event.

Nicholas' middle name was chosen in honor of my wife's grandfather, Aleksander Ladutko.

Nicholas' statistics are:  7 lbs 8.5 oz, 20 5/8 inches long
